hiv in the UK
- At the end of 2006, approximately 73,000 people living with HIV in the UK, of whom a third were unaware of their infection.
- While HIV-related deaths have dropped dramatically since the mid-1990s, the number of new infections has been increasing since 1999. In 2006, 7,093 people were diagnosed HIV+.
- Since 1999, more people have acquired HIV through heterosexual contact rather than homosexual contact or intravenous drug use.
