how to help

volunteers - we need you!

Volunteering at Shield is a vital part of our organisation and aims to be an exchange between volunteers and the organisation. So far this year, we have successfully held two Volunteer Training Courses and will be running further courses in the coming months. We are looking for new volunteers to help participate in practical work, fundraising, as well as educational and community promotional activities relating to HIV. Volunteers may choose, with help from their trainers, the role to which they are best suited.

The aim of the training is to give insight and develop practical skills related to organisations work. This covers HIV counselling skills and resources available to those living and caring for people infected and affected by HIV, with the intention of increasing self awareness, understanding, skills and confidence building.

How to get started: All members are assumed to be in agreement with Shield’s mission statement and are required to have a police check and interview before training begins.

Next volunteer training sessions: Please ring 0114 278 7916 or 0170 972 0477, if you are interested in signing up for our upcoming training sessions.

Fundraising Organisers

Being a charity our work is funded through a combination of donations, public sector and a variety of fund raising activities. We are looking for volunteers to organise and fund raise on our behalf.

Direct Helpers

Can you carry out jobs such as decorating or gardening, on a one-off basis. If so then we need you.

Therapists

Our volunteer therapists are an invaluable and essential part of our holistic approach to well being. All therapists are professional, trained to a high
standard and insured.

New therapists are always welcome, they must be qualified for insurance purposes. The therapeutic environment is supportive and forward thinking. Our
holistic approach to well being is reflected in our openness to constantly research new non-invasive therapies that we believe may compliment, and
therefore enhance, any established pharmacological treatment plan.
